High Sierra-Giant Sequoia Star Party

Observing Sites

The main observing site for the star party will be located about 1.5 miles from the Montecito-Sequoia Lodge. The site, known by local astronomers as "The Rock", or Big Meadows, is located at 7500 ft in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. Big Meadows offers a spectacular clear horizon from the NNE to the SSW, with a few small trees to the west. There is room for parking,  RV's, and camp trailers right next to the site. We have room for 75-100 astronomers at "The Rock", and there are plenty of other good sites very close by.

It is also possible to do an observing session right at the Montecito-Sequoia Lodge. Our site has a very nice view from the NNE to the SSE, and a clear view overhead.
